Raising a Strong-Willed Child: Working With the Fire, Not Against It
6 min read
Strong-willed kids are not problems to fix. They are leaders in training — if their fire isn't broken first.
Don't break the fire
The trait that makes them hard at 6 is the trait that protects them at 16. The job isn't to crush it — it's to channel it.
Working with it
- Offer choices everywhere you can
- Negotiate the small stuff, hold the big stuff
- Explain the why once, then move
- Repair after rupture every time
- Let them be right out loud sometimes
