What is a sensory meltdown?+

A sensory meltdown is the nervous system flooding from too much input — sound, light, touch, smell, social load. It looks intense but it's involuntary, and it stops only when the input stops and the body regulates.

Do I need an OT to build a sensory diet?+

An occupational therapist is ideal, but you can build a basic home sensory diet with proprioceptive (heavy work), vestibular (movement), tactile and oral inputs spaced through the day.

Why does my child cover their ears in normal places?+

Many sensory-sensitive kids hear ambient noise at a much higher 'volume' than typical. Covering ears is a self-regulation strategy — respect it and add tools like noise-reducing earbuds.
