How to Build a Visual Schedule Kids Actually Follow
6 min read
Verbal reminders cost working memory. Visual schedules return it. Here's how to build one that actually gets used.
Build principles
- 5–7 steps maximum
- Pictures + 1 word, not full sentences
- Eye-level, in the room where it happens
- Movable pieces (velcro, magnets) so they can interact
- Updated together, not for them
How to use it
When they ask 'what's next?', point — don't answer. Within a week, most kids check the chart on their own.
